Why A Rinkhals Bulldog

Why Buy A Rinkhals Bulldog?

I have been around Bulldog's for a long time, in fact probably the longest standing round the South Island at this point. I breed very infrequently, generally only when I am wanting a new youngster for myself to carry on with or to show, which means that there isn't very often I have pups available to the open market.

I am on my fifth generation, having had all the girls live with me so I know their history and their health status very well, I look for and study the males that I feel will compliment my girls in both type (look), health and temperament.

I am pleased to say that most of the Bulldogs I have bred and homed, their owners have stayed in contact, a few of them have made double figures in their age now and most of their owners are quite happy to share with me how fit, healthy and happy their dogs have been, sadly there have been a few that have not made old dogs, because of things that are beyond my control. I do my best to ensure healthy pets not vet bills, having had my share of young dogs passing prematurely I know and understand the heart break. Things that are avoidable like lacking pigmentation or skin issues are unnecessary to breed, pinched nostrils and breathing issues are inexcusable to breed.

I consider myself as one of the preservation type breeder's, meaning I have read and understand the blueprint of our breed and do my utmost to breed to this. I admire the work that was done all those many years ago by the breed guardians keeping this breed true to type and working hard to stay within the parameters of this. I am more than a little disappointed with those that choose to come into the breed and follow the latest fad, whether that is over done heavily furnished examples, the introduction of non recognised colours - sadly at the end of all this it is only the poor Dog that suffers the consequences.

Our breed is under the spot light globally and it is our responsibility as breeder's to only be producing healthy animals that are first and foremost family pets. I become very sad at some of the examples that have been bred, simply for the mighty dollar :-(  I work full time, I do not rely on my dog's to be my income.

When I do decide on a pup being available for a pet home, I will strongly suggest neutering, why?? Because every pup that is bred is not always up to show quality or breeding quality. As a breeder, I study and evaluate my pups and if I feel they are up to the standard they will probably stay with me to further my show time or breeding programme. Just because I ask for it to be neutered does not make it any less of a pet but I consider it as being a responsible breeder that doesn't allow things that I perceive as a fault to be perpetuated in someone else's breeding carrying my kennel name and reputation.
